Implant Supported Dentures Portland, OR
Losing your teeth causes serious issues. One of the most obvious effects of tooth loss is having difficulty biting and chewing your food. Your speech suffers as does the quality of your smile. Tooth loss also impacts the health of your jawbone, causing bone loss. The more teeth you lose, the greater the impact. At Malmquist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we can restore a full arch of missing teeth, giving you back your smile and the functions of your missing teeth, with implant supported dentures.
Dental Implants for Tooth Loss
Dental implants are a treatment used to replace missing teeth. This treatment uses small posts made of titanium to support ceramic replacement teeth. The posts are surgically implanted into your jawbone. Your bone, then fuses to the posts, stabilizing them and essentially transforming them into replacement roots that hold your new teeth securely in place. Dental implants are a versatile treatment that can be used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or even an entire arch of teeth.
What are Implant Supported Dentures?
Implant supported dentures are a full arch restoration used to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. This treatment can be used in your upper jaw, your lower arch, or even both. The posts used for this treatment are surgically placed into your jawbone. This requires small incisions in your gums and holes drilled into your jawbone. The posts are placed directly inside, and your gums are sutured closed around them. Temporary teeth are placed on the posts until you healed. After healing, your final dental restorations are designed, created, and placed. Read more about implant supported dentures vs. removable dentures.
Types of Implant Supported Dentures
There are a few different types of implant supported dentures. This enables us to meet different types of needs. Common types of implant supported dentures include: • |
Fixed implant supported dentures. This is the typical type of implant-supported denture. This treatment uses 6 to 8 dental implant posts to provide support for your replacement teeth. The replacement teeth are secured into place with small screws.

All on 4. The All on 4® Treatment Concept is a type of implant-supported denture that is used when your jawbone is too weak to support the necessary posts for a fixed implant-supported denture. Rather than undergoing a bone graft, this treatment uses 4 strategically placed posts, maximizing contact with your existing jawbone for optimal fusion. Two posts are placed vertically at the front of the jaw while the other two are placed at 45-degree angles near the back of the jaw. Like a fixed implant-supported denture, your replacement teeth are screwed into place on the posts.

Bar retained implant supported dentures. A bar-retained denture is another type of implant supported denture that is used when your jawbone is too weak for a fixed implant-supported denture. This treatment uses 4 to 6 implant posts. A titanium bar is attached to the posts. Rather than your teeth being screwed into place on the posts, they clip into place on the bar. These teeth can be easily taken out so that you can take care of them. |
