Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialists in Dental Implants
Multiple Teeth Replacement With Implants Portland, OR
There are options available to replace multiple missing teeth while still giving you a look, feel, and function of your natural teeth. Our staff at Malmquist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery can review the health and status of your bite, see what teeth are currently missing and discuss if there is a need for other teeth to be removed. We can then provide the options available specific to you. Using dental implants, in combination with varying prosthetics, we can help you have a beautiful and functional smile.
What are dental implants?
A common misconception is that dental implants are replacement teeth, but that is not entirely accurate. Dental implants are a threaded metal post that we surgically sink into the bone to serve as a replacement root, not a tooth. Bone material has a wonderful ability to continuously grow and heal, as it grows, it will grow around the threads of the implant fusing the two for a firm hold.
Dental implants are comprised of either a titanium metal or non-metal zirconia. Both of these materials are used in surgical procedures throughout the skeletal frame; they are biocompatible and found to fuse successfully with bone. Once the implanted post has healed or fused, to the bone, we can then place various types of prosthetics to a single post, or multiple posts depending on the work being done.
Place a Multiple Tooth Replacement: When replacing multiple teeth, we can place a bridge, using a combination of an implant and a healthy tooth, or two implants. We can also place a partial denture using a combination or multiple implants. The objective is to create a secured anchor to support the device and keep it in place.

Replace All Teeth with Implants: We can secure a full denture on either or both arches with a permanent solution or a removable solution. The All-on-4® Treatment Concept secures the denture using four to six dental implants directly to the jaw bone; it is unremovable and permanently in place. The bar-supported denture and ball-supported denture use a system that allows the patient to clasp the device on and off. Some patients prefer the ability to do this to give their jaw a rest or for better cleaning.
You do not have to live with missing teeth, and you do not have to have prosthetic devices that are loose in your mouth. We can help you have a secure device that will allow you to eat your regular diet and smile with confidence.
The surgical placement of dental implants is a minimally invasive procedure that is safe for most patients, including those who are older or more medically delicate. The biggest factor in determining candidacy is the patient’s ability to heal properly. If you have a condition or take a medication that slows your healing process, we are happy to talk with your physician to see what changes can be made to increase your healing ability. We invite you to meet with us and see what we can do.
